She was admitted to Buckhorn this week. This is her second residential facility. So far, the clinical staff appear to be very knowledgeable about current best practices and all other staff members seem to genuinely care about the wellbeing of their residents. This facility has great communication with caregivers and is very accommodating to caregivers who drive a long distance.
I am a mental health professional and my daughter had what is known as a "failed placement" at this facility. She was under the clinical care of Mr. Charlie Woodcock from 10/15 until 1/16. Very little therapic treatment was received during her stay. I feel his intentions were good, but he did not take the time to facilitate quality interventions.
Love this place!
In summary, please request another facility. The level of therapeutic care is poor. However, the staff deserve recognition for their hard work. If your child is not struggling with a mental health diagnosis, behaviors are well managed by their team, but do not expect appropriate therapeutic interventions from clinical staff.
However, the residential staff were amazing and applied very appropriate behavioral modification techniques. I feel the residential staff, who face high stress and receive low wages, run this program. If not for them, I do not feel she would've remained safe and out of placement until 5/2/2016. Her behaviors improved, but her overall mental health did not. The structure provided and team orientation of the staff had a positive impact on her.
